10 Things You Should Never Do When Meditating
Meditation can serve as incredibly helpful practice if you wish to relieve stress and calm your mind. The process of meditating involves leading yourself to a state of consciousness that brings a feeling of serenity and bliss, whether you meditate alone on your own, or with a group in a class. The benefits of meditation cannot be overlooked, and it is no surprise how popular this practice has become, not only in the Western world, but all around the world. However, if you do get started with deep meditation, there are 10 things you should never do when meditating and which are important to keep in mind.
1. One important rule; to stick by when trying to meet that deep meditation is to try not to focus on just a single thing. The purpose of meditation is not supposed to be about finding an answer to one particular thing or focusing your attention on something, but rather the opposite.
2. Another important thing is to never be too eager with meditation, because deep meditation should be a relaxing experience. The goal is to relieve your mind by not stressing it to focus on anything at all.
3. Never expect too much from meditation. Especially if this is your first time, you may not get what you expected out of it, but that does not mean you should give up. When done correctly, meditation can be incredibly helpful to calm and relax your mind and improve your well-being overall.
4. Never meditate after eating heavy meal, as this can make you feel uncomfortable and distract your mind. Heavy meals weigh your mind down and cause you to feel blotted which it’s the state you want to be in.
5. Never force yourself to meditate. If there is a day when you are just not feeling it, wait until you are in a better state of mind before trying to meditate. The goal of meditation is to bring a feeling of serenity and calmness, but if you are frenzied or angry, you will not get the results you want and may only end up more aggravated than you were to start with.
6. When meditating, never attempt to do so in a noisy environment. Close the windows, turn off your phone, and get yourself comfortable before starting. Meditation requires calm, quiet surroundings to allow you to reach that deep state of consciousness.
7. Never meditate if you are sick, because your body will not be feeling well and this can wreak havoc on an attempted meditation session, resulting in a non fulfilling meditation session.
8. Never meditate if you have just gone through a bad experience, for instance losing your job or getting in an argument with your friend. This can disrupt your train of thought and make meditating much more difficult.
9. Never worry too much about keeping track of your sessions and noting the progression of your meditation. The goal of deep meditating is not so much about making progress as it is about finding it easier to do each time and getting the calm, serene feelings out of it you were hoping for.
10. Also, never force yourself to meditate with a friend. If you prefer to do it alone, there is no reason to feel bad about that. Meditation is an enlightening practice, one which can help bring together your mind, body and soul. It is a practice well worth trying, if you avoid these ten things which can ruin the experience.
