Omega-3 From Fish Oil and Fibromyalgia
What is Fibromyalgia?
Fibromyalgia is a syndrome that causes a person to suffer from long-term, body-wide pain and tenderness in the joints, muscles, tendons and other soft tissues. It has also been linked to causing fatigue, insomnia, depression and anxiety. The University Of Maryland Medicine Center describes the most common symptom associated with fibromyalgia as widespread muscle pain that can be associated with inflammation of the joints and muscles.
Those who suffer from fibromyalgia often lose hope in finding a remedy to help them cope with their symptoms. This often leads them to taking prescription pain medications. What many don’t understand is that omega-3 from fish oil can help to alleviate most of the symptoms described above.
Don’t worry you’re not alone!
Fibromyalgia may be more common than you think. Did you know that about two percent of the population, roughly six million people suffer from fibromyalgia? Of the two percent, women are more likely to have symptoms as oposed to men. Did you know that ten percent to thirty percent of patients that are seen in a rheumatology practice will be diagnosed with fibromyalgia? While the numbers are staggering and doctors and scientists have not been able to identify the root of this condition, don’t lose hope! There are ways to help ease the symptoms which cause the majority of discomfort in patients.
Can Omega-3 Supplements Help?
Omega-3 from fish oil contains two very important ingredients, EPA and DHA. These ingredients, most specifically the EPA, have been found to produce anti-inflammatory benefits when taken regularly.
Unfortunately, EPA and DHA found in fish oil aren’t common in our diets, so we MUST obtain them through supplementation, especially if we are suffering from chronic pain caused by fibromyalgia.
Omega-3 from fish oil does not just help with the inflammation and pain. New research continues to unveil the amazing benefits of fish oil; specifically its affect on our brain. Omega-3 has been found to help lower anxiety and relieve individuals from their depression.
So what are you waiting for?
If you’ve been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, you should ask your doctor about the benefits of fish oil. Fish oil can easily be added to your diet as a daily supplement and provides many great benefits. It may be just what you were looking for to ease the symptoms of fibromyalgia!
Make the right decision!
If you’ve discussed the idea of including an Omega-3 supplement to your diet with your doctor, choose wisely. Make sure that the supplement you choose is high in EPA and DHA. These are the active ingredients that can help alleviate the symptoms. A quality supplement will provide EPA above 400 mg in each soft gel, and DHA above 300 mg in each soft gel. Once you’ve found a supplement that contains high levels of EPA and DHA in each soft gel, make sure you know it’s origin. Omega-3 Fish Oil that is derived from Norway can be trusted best, and a fish oil in a Triglyceride or TG form offers the most absorption, two important factors in finding a supplement that works!
